With Easter approaching, I share one of my favorite photos, taken sometime in the early- to mid-1970s.
My paternal grandmother, Gladys (Beane) Mason, is second from the left, in her smart blue outfit. That year, she won the “funniest” category at the Dover-Foxcroft (Maine) Older Americans Center’s Easter bonnet contest.
“She looks like she had a wicked fun sense of humor!” a friend once remarked.
The other winners were Francis Downs (best man’s bonnet), Marjorie Higgins (oldest) and Rose Richard (best woman’s bonnet).
